to understand

your pain and joy
the things that make us human
practice kindness
within arm’s reach
practice patience
and listening\

not how one says it
but what they mean\

for the sake of the heart
because there are stars
in the sky
and a universe
chained up in the backyard

that may never
understand our cruelties\
and that our response
was only
